Blackboard Weblog

A Weblog is a website where the owner can put his personal contributions, which are recorded chronologically. Usually contemplations are central for a weblog, contemplations of general or new developments, but also personal contemplations, considerations and reflections. In this way the weblog forms an online diary or a log.

In general contributions are publicly posted on the blog, but it can also be adapted to contributions that are reserved for the author or for specific (groups of) people. The power lies in the openness of the contributions: many readers can leave comments, which results into interaction with the reader. Weblogs within Blackboard are basically only visible to the people who are enrolled in the course of which the blog was created.

Application in Education

Collaborative writing: Collecting and sharing information about a particular (graduation) topic, subject or technique. Such use of a weblog can form a community/network.

Contact between students and teachers: Students and their (internship) supervisors will see each other less often during an internship. A student can use his weblog to reflect on his experiences during the internship. Both the supervisor of teh internship and the supervisor  of the study can read the blog and comment on the posts of the student. In this way, both supervisors stay informed about the development of their students and each other's support.
