Testing and Assessing

Testing and assessing encompasses all activities which have the goal of making decisions about students. These decisions can be summative (pass or fail) or formative (adjusting). An assessment method is selected depending on the knowledge or skill under evaluation.  

Using ICT

For each educational situation (bold and underlined),the tools (underlined) which can play an important role are discribed.  

  • Homework assignments can digitally be offered, submitted, and checked automatically.  
    Blackboards testmodule, 'Tests, Survey's & Pools',has basic functionalities for tests.  
    MapleTA is an assessment system with more extensive question/answer possibilities. This system can be coupled to Blackboard. 
  • Digital exams must be taken in a secured environment 
    MapleTA is used for digital exams .
    Sonate is a system for marking multiple choice questions which have been filled out on a form.
    The secured environment is also available for assignments where the computer skills of the students are tested. 
  • Peer review is used to let students give feedback on each other’s work, based on preset criteria. 
    Blackboards Self and Peer Assessment module spreads the evaluation forms among the group members and generates tailored reports for the students and instructor 
  • Peer evaluation is used to evaluate and discuss the cooperation within a project group. 
    Scorion spreads the evaluation forms among the group members and generates tailored reports for the students and instructor 
  • Evaluating competencies  for instance at the end of a bachelor ‘s. 
    The Blackboard Portfolio module contains a number of templates which can be used by the student to construct a portfolio. Using a link in their portfolio, students can include previously submitted assignments in Blackboard, and provide these with additional information, such as a reflection on their own work.
